Cannabis Consumption Methods

When it comes to consuming cannabis there are many options to consider. Not all methods of consumption will appeal to you, so the idea is to find a method that works best for you.

The reasoning behind these methods is to help consumers achieve their desired effect, while maintaining their lifestyle. If you are not a smoker, why smoke? If you don’t want to change your habits, you don’t have to! Cannabis has evolved into a remedy with nearly endless ways to utilize its benefits.

Smoking Cannabis

The first, and most basic, way to consume cannabis is to smoke it. Although it is not the healthiest way to consume, it is a very popular method.

A Joint is ground cannabis, rolled like a cigarette, in a rolling paper of your choice. There are a variety of papers to choose from. It is up to you!

Pipe/Bowl (Commonly made from glass and referred to as Bowls or Glass Pipes)

Bowls are usually glass blown pieces. On one end of the piece, there is a cone-shaped indent – this is where you will put your ground cannabis. On the other end, there is a place to inhale from.

Bong/Water Pipe/Bubbler

Bongs are larger than bowls, made from glass, and force the smoke through water before it is consumed. Bongs also provide more distance from the point of combustion, to the point of inhalation. This can result in a smoother inhale but can also allow for more cannabis to be consumed at once, so it is very important to be cautious, and TAKE IT SLOW!

Vaporizer (for flower)

Vaporizers are electronic devices that, instead of burning your cannabis, carefully heat your dry flower in a small chamber. The chamber only gets hot enough for the THC, CBD, and other oils in the plant to be inhaled. This minimizes the amount of plant matter that is consumed, and allows for a much smoother, and pleasant smoking experience.

Ingesting/Eating Cannabis

Edibles are food items that are infused with cannabis. Edibles usually take the form of gummies and chocolates, which is what you may find at your local dispensary, however, there are limitless options as to what foods you can infuse with cannabis. When ingesting cannabis, the effects are NOT the same as smoking or vaping. Sometimes you may not feel the effects until hours after consuming your edible. Everyone will react differently, so remember to always TAKE IT SLOW and start with a SMALL DOSE.

Tinctures are extracts of cannabis in a concentrated liquid form. These tinctures can be added to a cup of tea, a glass of your favorite juice, or simply dropped under your tongue! Tinctures react similarly with edibles; however, they can work faster because liquids digest faster than solids.

Topicals are creams or balms that are for external use only. Topicals do not produce a high like smoking or vaping and can be effective solutions to joint and muscle pain in targeted locations. This is helpful to those who desire these effects from cannabis, but do not want to experience any of the psychoactive effects that come with other methods of consumption.

These methods can provide different experiences and are very different from each other. If you choose to smoke, pick a method that works best for your lifestyle. If you are interested in cannabis without any psychoactive effects, then maybe a Topical could be the method for you! The main point is that everyone is different, and so are the ways we consume. We advise that each consumer takes the time to see what options are for them, and which options to stay away from. Speak with one of our educated dispensary agents for more information!
